Political leaders including President McAleese, the Taoiseach, the British Prime Minister and President Clinton were among those who took part in a unique radio programme broadcast this morning. The programme, based on the best selling book “Lost Lives”, went out simultaneously as part of RTÉ Radio One's 'Morning Ireland' and on BBC Radio Ulster. The book chronicles the circumstances in which each of the 3,637 victims of the Troubles met their deaths.
"Lost Lives", written by four Belfast journalists, is the first comprehensive list of all those who lost their lives during the Troubles. This morning's programme was dedicated to the memory of the dead, who will never see the new Millennium. Each contributor was asked to tell one story from the thousands chronicled in "Lost Lives", giving some of the many heartbreaking stories of the Troubles. Alongside, children from Enniskillen Integrated Primary School read some of the facts and figures about the violence in Northern Ireland.
