Sport: Ulster European Cup hopes die

Ulster's dream of successfully defending the European Cup crown died tonight when the side was beaten by Llanelli from Wales. The final score at Ravenhill was 06-29. Ulster had already lost their two matches in the competition so far, to Bourgoin and Wasps. Irish captain Dion O'Cuinneagain has been overlooked for a position despite being fully recovered from injury. Elsewhere tonight, Swansea beat Bath 10-09 in Pool 2.

There's been bad news for Munster today, Peter Clohessy has picked up a neck injury, and won't be available to play against Colomiers in tomorrow's European Cup clash. Marcus Horran comes in as a replacement. Munster have won both of their games in the competition but will be without injured centre, Killian Keane. In a straight swop Jason Holland takes over to partner Mike Mullins. Besides those two Munster are unchanged from the team that beat Saracens in dramatic fashion at Vicarage Road last time out. Coach Declan Kidney believes this game will be the toughest of a so far unbeaten season.

Meanwhile, Reggie Corrigan, Malcolm O'Kelly and Gordon D'Arcy return to the Leinster team for their match away to Stade Francais on Sunday. Corrigan replaces Emmett Byrne, who is out with a back injury, but should not weaken the side. O'Kelly replaces Leo Cullen in the second row and D'Arcy returns after a shoulder injury to take over from Peter McKenna who has a rib injury.
