It has been reported in England that hundreds of children may have been stripped of their entire organ systems during post mortem examinations at a Merseyside hospital. It is understood that the organs were kept for research. Hospital managers have been criticised by a coroner in Liverpool, who accused them of brutalising a family, after it emerged that their daughter's organs were removed following her death without their knowledge or consent.

The coroner, Andre Rebello, said that the removal of organs was unlawful, if parents had not given their consent. He called for these reprehensible acts to be investigated. The coroner's comments were welcomed by the solicitor, Ian Cohen, who represents about 70 families that are demanding a full and frank disclosure of the facts through a public inquiry.
