In Chechnya Russian forces are reported to have suffered their largest single-day death toll with up to 50 troops killed in a fight for the key Chechen stronghold of Argun. The AVN Russian news agency said that another 100 federal soldiers were wounded when troops stormed the heavily fortified village three miles east of the Chechen capital, Grozny.
