Twenty-four passengers and crew on a United Nations plane, which has crashed in Northern Kosovo are feared dead. The aircraft was on a daily flight from Rome to the Kosovar capital, Pristina and disappeared from radar screens, after reporting technical trouble. There was thick fog at the time.
The development agency Goal says that according to the passenger list, one of its volunteers was on the aircraft. She is Andrea Curry, a 24 year-old civil engineer from Armagh City, who was beginning her first job with Goal.
Several officials from non-governmental organisations were among the passengers. The cargo plane disappeared from radar screens shortly before midday. The flight was regularly used by UN staff, aid agency workers, reporters and cameramen.
The fear of unexploded mines, coupled with the darkness, have hampered search and rescue personnel heading for the crash site, 25 miles north of Pristina.
