The United Nations' Human Rights Commissioner, Mary Robinson has received the £210,000 Erasmus Prize, Europe's most prestigious award for social, cultural or scientific achievement. She was given the prize not just for her UN work but also for her achievements before and during her Presidency of Ireland, in forcing the country to adopt European laws, and giving Irish women a voice.
