Sport: Euro 2000 Turkish play-off in far away Bursa

The Republic of Ireland face a travel headache for the second leg of their Euro play-off against Turkey next month. Mick McCarthy's team will avoid the intensity of Istanbul for the November 17 clash, but must travel to Bursa's 25,000-capacity Ataturk Stadium, some 150 miles away.

That's the same venue where they defeated Germany 1 - 0 in their qualifying group a year ago. It means the Republic face a 12-hour journey to Bursa, including a four-hour flight to Istanbul, a one-hour coach trip, a one-hour ferry over the sea of Marmara and then a further one-hour coach drive.

Meanwhile, Republic Of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy has anounced a squad of 30 players for the forthcoming Euro 2000 two-legged play-off against Turkey.

Both Roy Keane, who captains Manchester United against Croatia Zagreb in their crucial Champions League Group D encounter tonight, and Shay Given are back after injury. Out of favour Ian Harte is also available. McCarthy will reduce the panel to 22 next week, following the weekend's matches.
