The political party which represents many Loyalist paramilitaries has said that Sinn Féin’s Gerry Adams could allay Unionist fears over decommissioning, and hasten the establishment of devolved government in the North, if he would say that the IRA war was over. Hughie Smyth, leader of the Progressive Unionist Party, which represents the UVF, said that Republicans had a responsibility to try and move the peace process forward. Mr Smyth, a Belfast city Councillor, was speaking at his party's annual conference in East Belfast.
