Sport: G.A.A.: All-Ireland Ladies Football Final

The All-Ireland Ladies Football Final has finished in drama at Croke Park. Waterford were favourites in the lead up but the women of Mayo lead ahead by 0 - 5 to 0 - 4 at half-time. Waterford kicked six wides in that first half. On top of that they had to face into a stiff breeze for the second half.

Mayo maintained their second half performance in the second half and despite Waterfords efforts they could not peg them back. It finished Mayo 0 - 12, Waterford 0 - 8 and Mayo had won their first senior final and with a team that includes ten teenagers. The finish was more drama filled than necessary when the referee blew his whistle and the majority of people thought the game was over only for the automatic clock to read four seconds. The four seconds were played and as you can imagine the scoreline didn't change.

In the All-Ireland 'B' Football Championship, Tipperary beat Longford 2-10 to 9 points, Antrim beat Leitrim 2-10 to 2-6, Fermanagh overcame Louth 2-11 to 1-11 and Carlow were 2-13 to 12 point winners over Limerick.
