Three thousand Meath fans have turned out in Clonee for the return home of the All Ireland Champions. The team coach first travelled to the Kepac factory in the town, sponsors of the County GAA team. Its expected the team will travel next to Dunboyne, onto Dunshaughlin and arriving in Navan at approx 10 p.m.
Yesterday at Croke Park, the men of Meath beat Cork 1-11 to 1-8 to win the All-Ireland title for the fourth time since 1987, their seventh in all. Ollie Murphy's goal helped them to a 1-5 to 5 points lead at half time. Early in the second half they had a chance to extend their lead with a penalty but Trevor Giles shot tamely into the arms of Kevin O'Dwyer. A brilliant goal by Joe Kavanagh gave Cork heart and put them in front but this was Meath's day and they went on to win by three points.
