In the Italian Grand Prix at Monza Jordan completed their second victory of the season. Heinz-Harald Frentzen is now only ten points behind the top two in the drivers championship in third place. Eddie Irvine didn’t have a particularly good day although he moved up from 8th on the grid to 6th. Ralf Schumacher claimed second with Michael Schumacher replacement Salo finishing in third to keep the Ferrari fans happy, ahead of Rubens Barrichello in fourth. Irvine’s main challenger for the World Drivers Championship Mika Hakkinen slid off the track when he was leading comfortably and although Irvine couldn’t capitalise on the Finn’s misfortune he managed to gain the point which takes him level at the top
of the championship.
