The Government is reported to have agreed to the publication of a Green Paper on abortion next week. The paper will lead to another referendum on the issue. Today's Irish Times says that, following its publication, the Green Paper will be sent to the All-Party Oireachtas Committee on the Constitution for consideration.
Its recommendations would guide a subsequent government decision on the matter. However, there is no indication of how long the committee might take in its deliberations. The Green Paper is reported to be a comprehensive document, which does not point in the direction of any one side. However the Irish Times quotes a government spokesman as saying that "no matter what happens there will be another abortion referendum".
