Alex Atwood has said that Senator George Mitchell's review of the Good Friday Agreement will not succeed unless the Ulster Unionists and Sinn Féin change their attitudes to decommissioning and an inclusive executive. The SDLP Assembly member said that the views of the wider Nationalist and Unionist communities have moved on and both parties will have to take this progression into account during the review process, which begins in September.
He said that Sinn Féin still believe there is not a demand to more fully address the issue of decommissioning and the Ulster Unionists believe that there is not a wish to get into inclusive government with Sinn Féin and other Nationalists.
