Gaelic Games: Clare triumph at Croke Park

Clare have beaten Galway 3-18 to 2-14 in the All-Ireland Hurling Championship quarter-final replay at Croke Park today. The decision of the Galway selectors to play an unfit Brian Feeney at full-back proved costly, as the free-scoring Clare forwards punished the weakened Galway back-line. Clare led by 1-07 to eight points at the break - their goal coming from Niall Gilligan solo effort.

After the restart, PJ O'Connor scored for Clare and points from Gilligan, Conor Clancy and Colin Lynch gave them an eight point lead. Galway cut the deficit to fout with a goal and a point from Eugene Cloonan, but Gilligan’s second goal of the day killed any hopes of a revival. Clare now meet Kilkenny in the All-Ireland semi-final on Sunday week.
