A record £160 million in research and capital grants has been awarded to third level institutions. The money will fund major research projects and facilities in eleven institutions around the country. Nearly half of the money will come from the private sector.
The announcement was made by the Minister for Education, Mícheal Martin and the Minister for Science and Technology, Noel Treacy. The 11 institutions that will benefit, include Athlone Institute of Technology, Dublin City University and the Royal College of Surgeons. Mícheal Martin said that this programme represents the largest investment in research facilities in our history. He said it will have a major impact in helping to keep Ireland at the cutting edge of international research.
