South Africa's new President, Thabo Mbeki, has been sworn in at a ceremony in Pretoria. African Heads of State and many other guests from around the world, including President McAleese, are attending the inauguration ceremony.
The occasion is seen as an opportunity for South Africa and the international community to say good-bye to Nelson Mandela, who is retiring from politics. Mr. Mbeki was elected as the country's next leader after the overwhelming victory of the African National Congress in the recent elections.
