Fresh talks on Drumcree stand-off end without agreement

6 hours of proximity talks between Orange Order representatives and residents of the Garvaghy Road ended without agreement today. The discussions are to resume in Belfast in the morning. The Convenor of the talks, Frank Blair, has put proposals on the table, which, it is understood, propose a parade on the Garvaghy Road this year, with a change to the route in future years.

Breandan Mac Cionnaith, of the Garvaghy Road Residents Coalition, said before the talks began that they had little faith in the proximity talks format and remained opposed to any attempt by Orangemen to march through their area. David Jones, of the Portadown Orangemen, said that he doubted that the residents were willing to solve the problem.
