Sport: Ireland/Macedonia match postponed

In the FAI has confirmed that Ireland's Euro 2000 Qualifier against Macedonia in Skopje has been called off due to the on-going Kosovo crisis. Following the escalation of conflict in the region UEFA have postponed the match until a later date.

A spokesman for Aer Lingus had already said that the airline is taking the advice of the Department of Foreign Affairs and would not be flying the Irish soccer squad to Skopje in the morning. The spokesman added that the FAI has been informed of this decision.

Two other European Championship qualifying fixtures have already been cancelled. The cancelled matches are the Yugoslavia-Croatia game on Saturday and the Yugoslavia-Macedonia match on Wednesday.
