French and British issue warning over Kosovo talks

The French and British co-chairmen of the Kosovo peace conference have said that anyone who blocks the success of next week's talks in France will be held accountable. Their warning comes after the failure of the American envoy, Richard Holbrooke, to persuade President Milosevic of Yugoslavia to sign up to the interim peace deal for the province.

Despite eight hours of talks in Belgrade with Mr. Holbrooke, Mr. Milosevic said that he could not allow NATO troops into the province to police the agreement. Mr. Holbrooke told reporters no progress had been made towards getting the Serbs to change their mind.
