The RUC Chief Constable, Sir Ronnie Flanagan, has cleared the names of two men named by Ian Paisley in the House of Commons as having been involved in the so-called Kingsmill massacre in which ten Protestant workmen were killed in 1976. Dr Paisley was quoting from a document which he alleged came from the RUC.
The Chief Constable dismissed claims that the widely publicised document emanated from the RUC. The document on the Kingsmills massacre in which ten Protestant workmen were killed was cited by the DUP leader, the Reverend Ian Paisley in the House of Commons.
Under parliamentary privilege, Dr. Paisley named two people he believed were responsible for the attack. The two men along with an SDLP assembly member, John Fee, met the RUC Chief Constable this morning. The two men are seeking to clear their names. Afterwards, Mr. Fee said that Sir Ronnie Flanagan dismissed Dr. Paisley's assertion that the document was a police dossier.
