The South Eastern Health Board has promised to introduce new procedures, after the revelation that the body of a 67-year-old missing outpatient remained undiscovered for almost two weeks in the grounds of a Kilkenny psychiatric hospital.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Health Board has announced that acute mental health services are to be moved from three older psychiatric hospitals in Dublin - St Brendan's, St Loman's and St. Ita's - to new, purpose-built units in the capital's general hospitals.
And in a separate development, there have been renewed calls for a review of conditions at mental institutions around the country.
