The security forces in Algeria say 16 people have been massacred by suspected Muslim rebels in a village south-west of the capital, Algiers.
Eight children were among the victims.
The incident was the worst since the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan ten days ago.
Algerian security forces say the attack took place in a vilage 130 miles south west of the capital, Algiers. The rebels diverted army attention from the raid by shelling another village in the region.
