The electrical appliances manufacturer Braun has announced redundancies at their Carlow factory.
For the first time in the company's history in the town the company is laying-off permanent staff. The company wanted to let go 45 people for a period of six months at first, but after discussions with unions, the number of layoffs has been cut to 37.
The factory, which used to be the biggest in Ireland, now employs just over 850. It says the redundancies are due to over supply in the market.
