No breakthrough at Middle East summit

US President Bill Clinton flies home from the Middle-East today having failed to achieve a breakthrough in the peace process.

The two hour summit meeting in the Gaza Strip was also attended by the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.

Mr Clinton was unable to persuade Israel to meet a Friday deadline to pull back from more of the West Bank.

In a clear sign of the difficulties facing the peace process, the summit broke up without a joint statement by the three leaders.
