Adare Manor and Golf Resort has been named Hotel of the Year 2018 at the Virtuoso Best of the Best Awards in Las Vegas.

The hotel and estate, which was bought by JP McManus and his family in 2014 for a reported €30m, re-opened last November after a 21-month restoration, refurbishment and expansion project. 

The awards ceremony took place in Las Vegas at Virtuoso Travel Week, the largest luxury travel trade show in the world.

Colm Hannon, CEO of Adare Manor, said "The international competition within the luxury "Hotel of the Year" category was outstanding this year and it is with great pride that we bring this worldwide award back to Ireland and Limerick.

"We are delighted to receive this worldwide recognition, as it is testament to the wonderful resort we have here today and its special surroundings, which were meticulously restored and enhanced with newly designed features, following significant investment from its owners."

Four other worldwide properties nominated in the category, included properties from Mauritius, Morocco, France and the UK.

Virtuoso is a network of the best luxury travel agencies, with more than 17,500 advisors worldwide.  They represent the best of the best in travel, with a portfolio of nearly 1,700 partners, including luxury hotels from all over the world.

Inside Adare Manor

Part of the hotel's major refurbishment included the addition of 42 new bedrooms increasing the number of rooms to a total of 104.

A massive ballroom was also added to the resort which can host up to 350 guests.

The golf course was also redesigned at a cost of €70 million.

The hotel hopes to host the world’s biggest golfing tournament, the Ryder Cup, in 2026.

Ireland's only time hosting the Ryder Cup was in 2006, when the K Club in Kildare was the venue for the biennial event.
