This warming loaf is perfect for cold days.
Ingredients

For the loaf
- 200g caster sugar
- 170g softened butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 eggs
- 250g plain flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp bread soda, sifted
- ¼ tsp salt
- 200g sour cream
For the brown sugar sprinkle
- 80g dark brown sugar
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- Glazed orange slices, for the top
Method
Preheat the oven to 180°C/fan 160°C/gas 4.
- Line a 2lb tin with parchment
- Combine the brown sugar and cinnamon in a bowl and set aside to sprinkle.
- To make the loaf, mix the plain flour, baking powder, sifted bread soda and salt together.
- Whisk the caster sugar, butter, vanilla and eggs together in a bowl until light and fluffy.
- Then fold in some of the flour mix and the sour cream, and when combined then add more flour and sour cream until all incorporated.
- Spoon a 1/3 of the batter into the tin, then sprinkle a 1/3 of the cinnamon brown sugar over and keep layering up ending with the sugar sprinkle.
- Bake for about 55 minutes or baked until a skewer is inserted and comes out clean.
- Cool slightly in the tin and then place on a rack to cool completely.
- When completely cold and ready to serve, arrange glazed orange slices on top.
To make glazed orange slices
Place slices of oranges on a baking tray, dust with icing sugar and bake at Fan 160°C for 10 -12 minutes and turn over, baking for about 10 minutes – keep an eye on them.
