Trisha's cheese & onion white soda bread with butter: Today
Ingredients
- 450g plain flour
- 1 tsp bread soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 100g red cheddar, grated
- 2 white onions, finely diced
- 1 bunch chives, shredded
- 350ml buttermilk
Method
- Preheat the oven to 230°C.
- Prep the dry mix - sift the flour, bread soda, and salt into a large bowl.
- Add flavor – stir in the grated cheese, diced onions, and chives.
- Bring it together – pour in the buttermilk and mix until just combined. Let it rest in the bowl.
- Shape the dough – turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead into a round, about 6 inches wide.
- Score the top – place on a floured baking tray and use a knife to cut a deep 1-inch cross on top.
- Bake – place in the oven at 230°C for 15 minutes.
- Adjust the heat – reduce to 200°C and bake for another 25 minutes.
- Final crisp – turn the bread upside down and bake for 5 more minutes.
- Cool & enjoy – transfer to a wire rack to cool before slicing.
- To make homemade butter we will be whisking cream for 10 minutes, and adding this to ice, draining and serving.
