Served with homemade garlic sauce, this spice bag is worth skipping the takeaway for.
Ingredients
- 2-3 potatoes, cut into cubes or wedges
- 2 tbsp Chinese 5 spice
- 1 tsp chilli flakes, plus extra to serve
- 1 tbsp corn flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 2 tsp table salt
- 2 tsp pepper
- 2 red peppers, cut into large pieces
- 1 onion, cut into medium pieces
- 300g chicken fillets, shredded or cut into pieces
To serve: Garlic mayonnaise
- 200g mayonnaise
- 1 tsp horseradish
- 2 cloves garlic
- 2 tbsp parsley, chopped and extra to serve
Method
1. Preheat the air fryer to 200°C.
2. In a small bowl, combine the spices, salt and pepper with the corn flour and baking powder. The baking powder will help to create to crispy coating.
3. In a bowl, place the potatoes and sprinkle some of the spice mix.
4. Using a 2-drawer air fryer, place the potato in the air fryer, spray with some oil and cook for 20-25 minutes in total, shaking the pan once or twice or alternatively, deep fry them in a shallow pan or deep fat fryer.
5. In the meantime, in a second bowl, combine the chicken pieces, the red pepper, onion and toss in the spices seasoning.
6. Once 10-12 minutes of cooking are elapsed on the potatoes, in the second basket, add the chicken and pepper and onion pieces. Drizzle with some more spray oil.
7. Continue to air fry for another 10-15 minutes, tossing halfway through, until the potato and chicken are both cooked through.
8. In the meantime, prepare the garlic mayonnaise. In a bowl, combine the mayonnaise, horseradish, garlic, and parsley. Keep aside until needed.
9. Remove from the basket. Sprinkle with extra salt, pepper and chilli flakes if desired and serve immediately.
10. Top tip: for a larger portion, air fryer the potato pieces first for 20-25 minutes, and remove from the basket and keep them warm in a bowl.
11. Add then the chicken and pepper mixture and the basket and air fryer for 15 minutes.
12. Once nearly cook, add the potato back in the air fryer and air fryer all for 5 minutes until warmed up.
13. Serve immediately.
