The recipe we have listed will make 6-7 substantial sized burgers so you can wrap them up in cling film and freeze some until they are required.

Ingredients

Prep: 45 mins (incl 30 mins rest time)

Cook: 16 minutes.

  • 700g lean minced beef
  • 1 medium sized onion-finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 50g breadcrumbs
  • 50g grated parmesan
  • 4 dessert spoon tomato ketchup
  • 1 large egg
  • Freshly chopped parsley
  • Seasoning

To decorate:

  • Jalapeños – Outer eyes
  • 4 tbsp ketchup
  • Olives - eyes
  • Grated Cheddar Cheese- Hair

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas Mark 4.
  2. Put the minced beef into a large mixing bowl.
  3. Add in the finely diced onion and garlic.
  4. Mix in the breadcrumbs, parmesan and chopped parsley together with the tomato ketchup.
  5. Season the mixture with a little salt and pepper.
  6. Add in the egg and mash the mixture together with your hands using the egg as a binding agent.
  7. Divide the mixture into 6-7 pieces and using a little plain flour shape them into your desired shapes about ½ inch thick.
  8. Allow to rest in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
  9. Heat a large frying pan with a little oil and then pan fry the burgers on each side until golden brown, approx. 2 minutes on each side.
  10. Transfer them to the oven and cook for 10 - 12 further minutes to make sure that they are well cooked through.

To decorate:

  1. Slice into the centre of the burger and add a teaspoon of ketchup, more if you require "blood ketchup" dripping from the mouth.
  2. To make the eyes, use the Jalapeños as the outer eye and the black olive as the eye centre.
  3. Use grated cheese to create the hair.
