Fish curry is becoming a familiar meal for many families and its little wonder when you read Lina Gautam's recipe. She cooks this up on RTÉ One's Today show.
Ingredients
- 4 fillets of any white fish preferably skin less (hake, tilapia , cod, sea bass)
- Approx. 2 tbsp lime or lemon juice
- ½ tsp turmeric powder
- ½ tsp salt (or to your taste)
For Sauce:
- 3-4 tbsp mustard or vegetable oil
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 small onion finely chopped
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard powder
- 3-4 ripe tomatoes chopped with seeds and flesh
- 8-10 garlic cloves crushed or grated
- Handful of fresh coriander stalk finely chopped (leave leaves for garnish at the end)
- 1 tsp salt or to your taste
- 1 tsp red chilli powder
- 1 fresh red chilli finely chopped (you can adjust to your taste)
- 1 tsp cumin powder and 1 tsp coriander powder or (you can use 2 tsp garam masala powder)
- 2-3 tbsp lemon or lime juice
- First mix fillet of fish with lime juice, turmeric powder, salt and leave it aside

- Heat a pot and add oil.
- When oil is smoking hot fry onion with salt and turmeric for about minute or so until onion is light brown.
- Then mix rest of above ingredients for sauce in a bowl.
- Add ½ cup of water to make the mixture a little more liquid/runnier.
- Add the mixture in the pot with onion, cover and cook, stir occasionally .
- Cook for about 7-8 minutes until oil oozes out from the sauce.
- Add hot water to adjust and make your preferred consistency of the sauce.
- Heat another pan, when pan is piping hot, place fish fillet, turn after 30-40 seconds.
- Do the same with the remaining fish and place those sealed fish fillets in the sauce and cook for another few minutes.
To serve:
Garnish with coriander leaves and serve with fluffy basmati rice.
