The GPT chatbot will be installed in several Volkswagen models by the end of the year and will provide what the company calls "seamless access to the constantly growing artificial intelligence database".
Any VW with the IDA voice assistant will have access to the database and drivers can have "researched content" read out to them while driving. It's expected to be available by the middle of this year on existing models.

VW will be the first volume car manufacturer to use the system in cars such as the ID3, ID 4, ID5 and ID7 as well as new versions of the Golf, Tiguan and Passat. It will also feature in non-electric models and can be retrofitted as long as the car has the IDA function.
The system has been developed with Cerence Inc.
VW says the voice assistant programme "can be used to control the infotainment, navigation, and air conditioning, or to answer general knowledge questions." Users won’t have to sign up to ChatGPT or download an app - the IDA voice function will filter the information required. If the system can’t answer a question, the request will be forwarded "anonymously" to ChatGPT.
VW insists that ChatGPT does not gain access to any vehicle data, with questions and answers being deleted immediately to ensure "the highest possible level of data protection."
