Next month sees the arrival of the new fully electric Kia Niro, a compact family car heavily influenced by design features from the company's EV 6 and Sportage models. More space, more tech and more range underpin the new Niro’s design and specification.
Kia has also introduced a plug-in version, which has a 1.6 litre petrol engine and the company is claiming a range of up to 59 km on the small battery.
It claims a range of up to 460 kilometres for the fully electric version but these claims are usually based on optimum driving conditions.
Standard equipment for the entry level PHEV model, which is priced at €45,715 (inclusive of grants), includes 18" alloys, LED headlights, heated front seats, a 10.25" touchscreen navigation, Kia Connect Telematics, a wireless phone charger and Apple Car Play and Android Auto with voice control.
It also has Lane Keep Assist, smart cruise control and automatic air conditioning.

A better-equipped 'K4’ version adds a rotary dial for drive, reverse and park, power adjustable front seats, heated rear seats , a head-up display, a 10.25" LCD driver display screen and power tailgate .
For the moment, the Niro full electric version comes only with this higher K 4 specification. It costs €45,715 (inclusive of grants ).

Kia has also "plugged in" its Sportage SUV model and claims the battery-only range will be 70 km. It comes with two trims – K3 at €46,000 and a K4 model at €48,000 (both inclusive of grants). The K3 has 19" alloys, dual zone climate control, smart cruise control, heated front and rear seats, power adjustable front seats and a 12.3"infotainment screen with Kia Connect (UVO Connectivity)
The K4 model adds full leather trim, a drivers’ memory seat, ventilated as well as heated front seats ,12.3" driver display and phone charger.
Both models come are available with four wheel drive.
