Polestar, Volvo's performance electric division, has now commenced sales in Ireland with two versions of its Polestar 2 arriving. The company also plans to introduce an all-electric SUV next year.

The range starts with the standard range single motor, which is priced at €49,500, including grants. Polestar is claiming a range of between 440 and 474 kilometres based on initial testing but real world conditions are likely to affect these figures, so we’ll have to wait to find out. This car has an output of 231 horse power and a 0 to 100 KPH time of 7.4 seconds.

The Polestar's Volvo heritage is very evident

The first cars available next month will be the long range dual motor version, priced from €61,990. Its claimed range is between 455 and 482 kilometres. Thanks to a 408 horse power output, the 0 to 100 KM time is about 4.7 seconds. The single motor version will come later.

Polestar Ireland says it has 1,500 potential customers across the country signed up for test drives.
