Peugeot's decision to concentrate on SUV-type design has paid off, with the compact 3008 being awarded the Irish Car of the Year title for 2018.

The 3008 managed to see off competition from eight other cars in the Car of the Year category, having also won the compact SUV of the year award. The event was organised by a panel of motoring journalists in association with Continental Tyres.

The 3008 has picked up numerous awards for its innovative styling - inside and out - and its performance. It was the first crossover to become European Car of the Year last year. The car was launched in Ireland with a starting price of €25,995 and is available in three different trim levels.

Interior of the 3008

As we noted in our preview of the 3008, the list of standard equipment - including safety technology features - is impressive.  There's an 8 inch touchscreen. Bluetooth, USB connectivity, an electronic stability programme, six airbags, cruise control with limiter, intelligent speed adaption and lane departure warning. There is also driver fatigue alert. Add to all that a full spare wheel, a chiller compartment, all electric windows, a two-position boot floor, child safety locks, three Isofix child seat fixtures and semi-automatic air conditioning and you have a very good package indeed.

Move up the grades and you get extras such as advanced emergency braking, cameras and automatic headlights.
