All German manufacturers have been blitzing the market with new models and model variants for the past couple of year and Mercedes is adding to the mix with the last version of its renewed E-Class. The cabriolet is now the fifth E-Class variant.
It goes on sale in September and Mercedes expects the volume sellers to be a 2.0 litre diesel, producing 194 horse power, and a 2.0 litre petrol producing 184 horse power. Mercedes has not announced prices for the car yet but says they will be "only moderately" above current E-Class cabriolet prices. These currently start at around €54,000.
The roof can be opened or closed in about 20 seconds at speeds of up to 50 KPH.
Like almost every other new car these days, the E-Class cabriolet has become longer and wider. Expect to see advanced driver assist programmes and safety features. Other equipment - not all of it necessarily standard - includes a multimedia touchscreen with finger swipe and voice control.
There are also clever features that provide neck-level heating and a draught prevention system.
One novelty feature is when water is regulated directly to the wipers to ensure you won't ruin your hair with splashes when you need to clear the windscreen.
