Kia to launch new competitor for Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Polo.

The Kia Stonic will take on cars like the new Ford Fiesta and the new Volkswagen Polo.

It's another unfathomable name from Kia but this new compact crossover looks like it comes with fairly sharp looks. It should be here in the next few months and will have a choice of 1.0 litre, 1.25 litre or 1.4 litre petrol engines along with a 1.6 diesel option.

The Stonic will have a choice of three petrol engines and one diesel.

Standard equipment on the car will include electronic stability control and a vehicle stability management system. The latter includes cornering brake control.  We have yet to see exactly what will be offered as standard on the new Ford Fiesta and the new Volkswagen Golf and both these cars should be on the market when the Kia goes on sale. Competition is extremely keen in this segment and it is likely both Ford and VW will be majoring on extra safety technology and connectivity with their cars. Cars in this segment are now becoming more popular as they are getting bigger and people are moving up from superminis and down from family hatchbacks and,of course, the crossover styling is wildly popular right now.                                                                T

The car was specifically designed in Europe and what car companies now call "customisability" is almost as popular now as the crossover styling. Kia says there will be more customisation options for the Stonic than for any previous Kia model, so expect plenty of mix and match colouring - internally and externally.
