Most car companies are becoming increasingly adroit at previewing their new models with teaser campaigns, but Ford has gone a little further than the rest to generate maximum interest in one of its best-selling models, the Fiesta. Apart from some fairly detailed photography, we now know some of what the engine line-up will include and what sort of technology is likely to be featured on the new car.

The new Fiesta has a smoother front profile than the outgoing model.

A 140 horse power 1.0 litre EcoBoost petrol engine will be on offer, as will a 120 horse power 1.5 litre diesel, which is described as Fiesta's first high power diesel engine. There will be other engine choice for more mainstream options.

Ford says the Fiesta will come "with the most sophisticated range of driver assistance technologies and connectivity features ever in a volume small car in Europe, as part of the most comprehensive and versatile line-up of variants in 40 years of Fiesta history".

An interior shot of the Fiesta but not everything you see may be standard in Ireland.

The car will feature technology that includes advanced safety systems using two cameras, three radars and twelve sensors and Ford is likely to try to provide as many features as possible to give the car a lead over the competition. If it manages to do so it will up the ante for those competitors and the result will be more benefits for car buyers, and not just Ford ones.

Versions of the car will include an ST-sports line, a Vignale semi-luxury version and a crossover version.

No prices have yet been announced for Ireland and it will be next month at least by the time we get an indication of them and the level of equipment that will come as standard.
