Joining the latest BMW 5 Series saloon, the estate version goes on sale from €56,590.
The first time the 5 Series estate will go on public view will be at the Geneva motor show next month. The company, which is currently taking orders for the car for later delivery, says fuel consumption for the new car has been cut by 11% and the boot capacity increased to 1,700 litres at full capacity.
Both of these developments are important for estate buyers.
Starting at €56,590 for the 2.0 litre 190 horsepower version, there will be five versions of the new car in all. Like all other new cars these days, the latest estate is longer wider and taller than before.
There will be a choice of four engines and two versions of the car will have four wheel drive. There will also be a choice of 3.0 and 4.0-litre petrol engines to complement the 2.0 and 3.0-litre diesels.
In terms of fuel consumption, there is a claimed figure of 4.35 litres per 100km for the 2.0-litre diesel, although this figure comes with the usual caveat about real world consumption matching manufacturers' claims.

BMW says the car combines significant weight reductions with better torsional rigidity, which enhance the overall feel and character of the car.
A 10.25 inch control screen is freestanding and can be swiped rather than having to push buttons, thus reducing distractions. Microsoft Exchange and Apple CarPlay functions are also available.
