Although popular with fleet customers and executives, the Opel Insignia has not made a huge impression here so the latest version of the car - the Grand Sport - is intended to move it a bit more upmarket. The most distinctive feature is the coupe styling, making it less bulky looking than the current model.
And that bulk - or weight - has also been addressed with a reduction in weight of up to 175 kilos, which should make the Insignia more appealing to those who, like myself, have found it a heavy car to drive.
It's not clear how the car will be equipped when it goes on sale but Opel says no other car in the same class will have such ultra-modern technologies. Lane maintenance assist, with automatic correction if you stray, LED lights with a 400 metre range, a head-up display and 360 degree camera cover are mentioned.
