Revised Audi A 3 gets new engines

The latest version of the A3 will arrive in August with a new engine line-up and a number of new styling cues. These include a broader, re-shaped grille and flatter headlights but nothing more dramatic than that. Xenon plus headlights will also be standard.

|Of more interest is the arrival of a new 1.0 litre petrol turbo engine - a nod, perhaps, to the fact that people may be cottoning on to the fact that diesel and city driving are not such a perfect match as sales people might like you to think.

The 1.0 litre petrol is a three-cylinder compact engine capable of 115 horse power and economy is expected to be good.

There is also a 1.4 being introduced that will feature cylinder-on-demand technology that allows the car to run on only two cylinders when four are not required, such as in congested city conditions. This engine delivers 150 horse power.

The entry-level diesel will remain the 1.6 TDi with 110 horse power.

The revised A3 will also have a 7" screen.
