It is inviting members of the public and the business community to take part in an electric car trial for 2014 - featuring a wide range of ecars.
The ESB is looking for ambassadors across a wide variety of ages, lifestyles, occupations and commuting patterns to get involved in this initiative.
The selected ambassadors will trial one of the following electric vehicles: the Nissan Euro LEAF, Renault Zoe, Renault Twizy, Renault Kangoo ZE commercial van, Mitsubishi iMiEV, Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid SUV, Citroen C Zero or the BMWi3.
Twenty-four people in total will participate in the year long-trial and each ambassador will trial an ecar for a period of four months.
So what's involved? Installation of a compact domestic charge point at your home or workplace charge point.
Ambassadors will get a Charge Point Access Card to access the public charging points located nationwide.
Motor insurance and road tax will be provided for the duration of the ecar trial.
Ambassadors will need to take part in surveys and other related research activities, plus undertake agreed PR-related activities.
The ESB says the introduction of any new technology such as electric cars, requires extensive research and pilot projects.
ESB ecars, in conjunction with European Programmes including TEN-T, Green eMotion, Mobi.Europe etc, is involved in a number of trials and surveys to analyse the charging infrastructure and collect data on ongoing consumer behaviour and trends. More details can be found on the ESB website.
