At auction for only the second time, the exceedingly rare original Pink Panther car is among the most singular - and spectacular - movie and television vehicles ever produced.
The car was created in 1969 as part of the popular Pink Panther Show, which aired in the United States on NBC from 1969 until 1976.
The car itself, known as the Panthermobile, played a major role in the show and exemplifies the whimsical-modern aesthetic of this era-defining television programme.
Designed by Hollywood's master vehicle designer, Jay Ohrberg, best known for having produced the world's most coveted movie and television vehicles including Knight Rider's K.I.T.T., Back to the Future's DeLorean, the 1966 Batman's Batmobile, the 1989 Batman's Batmobile, The Dukes of Hazzard's General Lee, Starsky & Hutch's Ford Gran Torino and even the Flintstones' cars, the Pink Panther car is a seminal work by this master Hollywood artisan.
Sadly, it is not street legal.
The Pink Panther car was understood to be owned by Ohrberg until it was entered into auction in June 2007 by COYS auction house.
It was then bought for £88,000 by the current owner.
