Owners of electric vehicles (EVs) and chargeable hybrids will be able to charge their cars onboard the Irish Ferries fleet of ships.

The charge points offer free electricity to users of the Ulysses (Dublin/Holyhead) and Oscar Wilde (Rosslare/France) vessels and will be available on all ships shortly.

Citing the move as a further indication of Irish Ferries' desire to be at the forefront in embracing new technology and facilities,

Daragh O'Reilly, Irish Ferries Marketing Manager, said that "the development extends the horizon for electric car and hybrid motorists who can now recharge their electric car as they travel into and out of Ireland".

Speaking at the launch, Paul Mulvaney, Managing Director ESB ecars, said: "As part of the rollout of electric car charge points, this new development of onboard charging extends the infrastructure to enable electric car drivers to travel to foreign destinations.

"The availability of charge points in a wide variety of convenient locations will help to further promote the adoption of electric cars in Ireland."
