Mitsubishi has started delivering Pajero four-wheel drives to the Irish Defence Forces.
For years Pajero has been a favorite with Builders but in recent times Mitsubishi has seen sales of the tough off road vehicle suffer as the construction industry goes through tough times.
After assessing vehicles from several manufacturers, the Defence Forces concluded that the Pajero offered the best solution to the varied demands likely to be encountered.
The vehicles will be used mainly in Ireland in roles where the Defence Forces provide Aid to the Civil Power. Examples of this assistance include Cash in Transit Escorts and Prisoner Escorts.
They will also be used for driver training to provide a pool of competent driver personnel to operate the vehicle both at home and abroad. On overseas peace support operations the Pajero will be deployed in many roles, however primarily as a patrol and communications vehicle.
The contract, which was awarded by open tender, will see Mitsubishi Motors Ireland supply up to 320 Mitsubishi Pajeros over the next 4 years.
