What is the role of a wedding planner, and when should a couple consider hiring one?
A wedding planner brings both structure and vision to what is often one of the most significant moments in a couple's lives. While logistics form part of the role, the true value lies in shaping a cohesive, considered experience. One that feels effortless from the outside, yet is meticulously curated behind the scenes.
From venue sourcing and supplier curation to design direction and guest experience, a planner ensures that every element aligns with the couple’s lifestyle, values, and aesthetic. Just as important, we act as both guide and advocate. Managing complexities, anticipating challenges, and allowing couples to remain present throughout.

Ideally, a planner should be engaged from the outset. The early decisions, particularly around venue and budget allocation, shape everything that follows. It is at this stage that expert guidance has the greatest impact.
What should couples be looking for when choosing a venue, and what questions should they ask?
A venue sets the tone for the entire celebration. While it is natural to be drawn to aesthetic appeal, it is equally important to consider how the space will function across the day.
Couples should look beyond the first impression and consider how the experience will unfold. From guest arrival through to the final moments of the evening. Questions around capacity, exclusivity, contingency plans for weather, and the level of in-house support are all essential.
It is also important to understand what is included and what is not. Elements such as furniture, tableware, staffing, and access for setup can significantly influence both budget and logistics. The right venue should not only reflect the couple’s vision but support it seamlessly.
When it comes to flowers and décor, how should couples approach defining a style, and where is it worth investing?
The most compelling wedding design always begins with a sense of place and a clear narrative. Rather than focusing on trends, I encourage couples to consider how they want the day to feel. The atmosphere, the palette, the textures. From there, the design can evolve in a way that feels both personal and timeless.
In terms of investment, impact lies in what guests experience most directly.
Tablescapes, lighting, and key focal moments such as the ceremony setting or dining space tend to offer the greatest return. These are the elements that shape both the visual impression and the emotional tone of the day.
There is often less value in overextending across too many smaller details. A more considered approach, where fewer elements are executed exceptionally well, will always feel more elevated and enduring.
What timelines should couples be mindful of when planning their wedding?
A well-paced timeline allows the planning process to feel calm and intentional, rather than rushed.
Typically, save-the-dates are shared nine to twelve months in advance, particularly for destination weddings or peak season dates, with formal invitations following approximately three to four months before the celebration.
A wedding website can be introduced early in the process, serving as a central point for key information and updates.
Timelines should always be guided by the nature of the wedding itself. Location, guest profile, and scale all play a role. The goal is not simply to meet deadlines, but to create a rhythm that allows each decision to be made thoughtfully and with clarity.
That said, we are seeing much shorter lead times, with some couples planning a wedding within 3-6 months, given their own personal circumstances and preferences. While venue and supplier availability may be somewhat limited, it is all doable.
