Things to do in Dublin this weekend (January 16-18)

With the sparkling lights of Christmas already feeling like a distant memory, and the temperature dropping by the day, January is a month that needs to be packed full of entertainment, activities, and distractions. Thankfully, Dublin has all of that on offer.

Dry January Festival

Alternative Dublin is hosting a month-long programme of sober events that will help keep you entertained through January. With over 120 events designed to help you stay social, meet new people, and have fun without alcohol being at the centre, the festival will see you trying out hikes, art classes, charity shop crawls, pottery, speed friending, and lots more. Are You Afraid of the 90s?

Comedian and New York Times-bestselling author Rob Anderson has become known for his viral recaps on TV shows, movies, and pop culture. This weekend, he's bringing his new show, Are You Afraid of the 90s?, to the Sugar Club, where he will explore what the decade taught us about teenage pregnancy, drug addiction, questionable age gaps, and more. Tickets cost €38.25 on Ticketmaster.

Crochet Your Own Scarf

Florence Julia is hosting a beginner-friendly crochet workshop in Buzz Temple Bar on Sunday, 18 January, from 2pm to 4pm. There are just 10 spots available, and all materials will be provided along with step-by-step guidance. Tickets cost €37.44 on Eventbrite.

2025: THE QUIZ

Sometimes it's tricky to remember what you did last week, but what about a year's worth of headline-making events? The Circular on South Circular Road is hosting a pub quiz that will test your knowledge of all things 2025. Taking place on Friday, 16 January, from 8pm to 10:30pm, the event will last two and a half hours and is only open to those aged 18 and over. Tickets cost €15.99 on Eventbrite.

Movement Workshop

Little Bird yoga studio in Dublin 8 is hosting an awareness through movement workshop with Padraic Mulholland on Saturday, 17 January, from 3pm-5pm. Open to all levels, this workshop will explore the Feldenkrais method and how it can support our breathing. Treat yourself and take time out to nurture your breathing. Tickets cost €35.

David Bowie, Glam, 70s, 80's - Pub Quiz + Tribute Concert

On both Saturday and Sunday night, the Bernard Shaw will host a pub quiz and concert in tribute to the late David Bowie. The night begins at 8pm with a Bowie-themed Pub Quiz, covering the singer's career, as well as the music and culture of the 1970s and 1980s. Costumes are welcome, and the best dressed will win a prize! The night will end with a performance from David Bowie Tribute Band, Lads Insane. Tickets cost €6.67 on Eventbrite.
