Home Rescue: The Big Fix has returned to RTÉ 2 with a heart-warming mix of human stories and home makeovers. This season, the team are put to the test, decluttering and utterly transforming homes in just five days.
This week, designer Dee, builder Pete and their team of fitters, painters, chippies and clutterbusters travelled to Athy, Co, Kildare where they met music teacher Carrie Haskins.
Carrie shares her 1920s semi-detached house with her three kids Harry, 7, Charlotte, 4, and Joshua, 3. Although it's the same house Carrie grew up in herself, the last few years have been marked by joy and sadness, as she lost both her parents and giving birth to her two youngest children in the space of a single year.
The house has seen better days with damaged walls and ceilings, mountains of clothes, music equipment and ornaments belonging to her late parents.
The challenge for the Home Rescue team is to transform the family home into a calming, spacious and comfortable space, while also preserving the emotional legacy of the house.
In the middle of a cold snap, Designer Dee makes some bold decisions about the home's layout, reshaping the building from the inside.
Meanwhile, over at the local GAA club, declutter expert Aidan, the crew and Carrie's friends, tackle a mountain of musical paraphernalia, instruments and vintage electronica as Carrie makes her own tough decisions about what to do with her parents' belongings.
This episode will hit close to home for anyone torn between remembering lost loved ones and preparing for a future with the next generation, and the Home Rescue team bring empathy and understanding to this project.
