Suaimhneas: Enjoy 30 minutes in a soundworld of pure relaxation

This summer, RTÉ lyric fm is offering listeners a 30-minute slot of deep relaxation every Saturday at 6pm, starting on 5 July.

Named Suaimhneas - an Irish word meaning "a peaceful state of mind" - the music slot will broadcast sounds that will transport you to a tranquil space, offering an opportunity to step away from our increasingly overstimulated world.

'"Suaimhneas is where the calming power of music supports listeners in finding balance and peace amid the noise of life," says producer Gail Henry. "These 30 minutes each week are an invitation to slow down and let the music do what it does best."

The slot will invite listeners to take a break from the hustle and bustle of life and enjoy the therapeutic power of music, which has been scientifically proven to help reduce stress.

According to Ohio University, music can influence brain chemistry by releasing dopamine, the pleasure hormone, and reducing cortisol, the stress hormone.

Listening to calming music activates what neurologists call the "rest and digest" response, promoting relaxation, healing and recovery.

Incredibly, the gentle pacing of music can foster a sense of safety, supporting mindfulness and mental clarity, particularly in an age of digital overload and chronic busyness.

Take 30 minutes and relax to Suaimhneas on RTÉ lyric fm, Saturdays at 6pm - Where Life Sounds Calmer.
