Three Irish photographers have been shortlisted for the Sony World Photography Awards 2025.

Established in 2007, the annual awards are lauded as one of the world’s most prestigious photography competitions, celebrating the work of leading and emerging practitioners from across the globe.

Free to enter, and ranging from student and professional competitions to open and youth competitions, the awards have championed inclusivity across the globe.

The 2025 exhibition will take place in London, United Kingdom, between 17 April - 5 May. In the meantime, you can check out the shortlisted artists - including the work of the three Irish artists - on the Open Competition here.

The style of photos included: Street Photography, Portraiture, Travel, Object, Natural World and Wildlife,
Motion, Lifestyle, Landscape, Creative, and Architecture.

In Creative, Galway-based photographer Enda Burke made the cut thanks to 'Special K Nun' - a highly-stylised, brightly coloured and prop-filled photograph that delivers nostalgia and humour.

In Natural World and Wildlife, Peter Delaney, a multi-award-winning wildlife photographer known for his black and white prints, was shortlisted for 'Fever Tree Leopard – A Rare Encounter in the Wild'.

Shot within the Fever Tree Forest of Lake Nakuru in Kenya, this print captures a graceful female leopard resting on the bough of a towering fever tree.

In Natural World and Wildlife, Dublin wildlife photographer Tara Keane was shortlisted for her image of a heartwarming moment in Borneo, where a six-week-old pygmy elephant struggling to climb a steep riverbank is comfortedby its mother.

The photo recently won Gold in the Wildlife category of the Irish Professional Photographers & Videographers Association Awards 2024.

Open Photographer of the Year will be revealed on 16 April 2025.
