8 things to do in Dublin this weekend (May 24-26)

There's a grand stretch to our evenings, the weekend is almost upon us, and the city is filled to the brim with interesting, entertaining, and educational events. Let's get into it.

Subtle Poison Pop Up

Grainne Binns, owner of independent fashion brand Subtle Poison, is hosting a pop-up shop on Saturday, May 25 in Dublin's Fade Street Studios.

The event will include a two-hour dance/rollerskate workshop with founder Grainne Binns, where participants will learn some "fun, flowy and flirty choreography". Attendees should be able to go forwards, backwards and stop on roller skates in order to get the most from the class. Further details will be sent in an email following registration and payment

Workshop attendees will have the chance to shop early-access between 12:15pm and 12:45pm.

FLUX Members' Exhibition

Housed in The Bank venue on James' St, and supported by The Digital Hub, this spring exhibition is part of Flux's visual arts programme, showcasing the work of their studio members. The exhibition runs May 24 - 26 from 12pm - 5pm.

Daytime Dance Party

On Sunday, May 26, Mother and Absolut* will be hosting a daytime dance party in the George from 2pm-7pm for just €5.

Mother DJs Ghostboy and Rocky T Delgado will be joined by by some of the country's finest drag acts and queer performers for a massive one-off daytime collaboration. Spanning across indoor & outdoor dance floors, there will be live performances from Shaqira Knightly, Anziety, Viola Gayvis & Avatar Guille and dancing from the Mother Dancers; Tanya Doyle, Jose Galang, Paul Shego and Peter Toohey and more.

Practical Analog Workshop

Shoot and process your black and white film with Spanish-born photographer Edu Vargas this Sunday, May 26. This event is perfect for beginners and seasoned photographers looking to explore the art of analog photography. Beginning at the Chester Beatty Library, attendees will go through presentations and camera preparation, before going out to shoot. From there, Vargas will invited attendees to his Portobello home to process the rolls.

Those taking part should bring their own camera and a roll of Ilford HP5 Plus of 24 frames. Running from 1:30pm - 6pm, tickets cost €80.

Seisiúin le Cairde

Seisiúin le Cairde is a monthly showcase of some of Dublin's finest musicians. Takeing place upstairs in Phibsborough's The Hut, so this month's three-hour session title is 'síol' (seed), and will feature the musical stylings of Oceanna, a modern instrumental jazz ensemble. Tickets are €8 and doors open at 7:30 on Friday, May 24.

Bits & Beads

Hosted by Alternative Dublin, Bits & Beads is a sustainably-minded jewellery-making workshop that will give attendees the chance to create stunning pieces from metal and other recycled materials. Participants are encouraged to bring along old jewelry, beads, lace, textiles, wool, and other materials to incorporate into the finished piece. Led by Tamara from @toofabulousartandcrafts, this workshop will take place on Friday, May 24 from 6pm - 8pm in This Must Be The Place in Temple Bar. Tickets cost €25.64.

Dublin Dance Festival 2024

Running from May 14 – 25, the Dublin Dance Festival celebrates dance that "takes a stand, ditches convention and claims its strength." This weekend's line-up includes an exploration of ethnicity, identity and the experience of the Black diaspora from Mufutau Yusuf; an exhilarating performance of pure dance and live music from Emma Martin; as well as a series of candid portraits of eight iconic women in dance in Ireland from Laura Murphy.

Yoga & Grounding

Start your day on a positive note with a morning yoga session at Festina Lente on Old Connaught Avenue in Bray. Cocoon yourself in the stunning walled gardens for a meditative yoga and relaxation class followed by some Horticultural Therapy activity. The event will end with light refreshments including tea from the herbal garden and summer fruits.
